Planning the Shoot
Use apps like Stellarium or PhotoPills for planning. The Milky Way is visible from April to October in the Northern Hemisphere. New moon or first quarter is the best time.
Settings for the Milky Way
ISO 3200-6400, f/2.8, shutter speed 20-25 seconds. Set focus to infinity and disable autofocus.
